All-Night Parking Ban Begins November 15th

Interim Town Manager, Paul Watson, has declared an all-night parking ban on all Billerica roadways from November 15, 2009 until March 15, 2010. Vehicles found parked in the roadway longer than two (2) hours between midnight and 6:00 AM during the above dates will be tagged and subject to a fine. If a parked vehicle interferes with snow removal, a fine will be assessed and the vehicle will be subject to towing. Upon declaration of a snow emergency by the Town Manager, parking on all public ways will be prohibited. Vehicles found parked on public ways will be fined $50.00 and towed. The Chief of Police requests the cooperation of all residents to comply with this public safety ordinance to insure that snow plowing operations will not be hampered by illegally parked vehicles. (For information on regular DPW snow removal policies, click here.)

Bypass Pumping Scheduled Week of 11/16/09

As part of the Town’s Shawsheen River Pump Station Upgrade Project, the week of 11/16/09 we will be shutting down the pump station to replace major equipment.  In order to shut down the station, we will set up a bypass pumping system behind the existing pump station building.  This system will run continuously, seven days a week, until the majority of the work is completed.  We anticipated the work to take 4-8 weeks.

We have made all efforts to minimize the noise generated from the system with a sound attenuation system to reduce noise levels but there will be a somewhat elevated noise level during operation of the bypass system.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but the improvements to the station are critical in order to maintain safe operation of the pumping station and for the protection of public health and safety.
