Overview

The Engineering division is a division of Public Works and is currently made up of the Town Engineer, five Junior Engineers and a GIS Analyst. This division performs a variety of duties within the town.

Included in the division's responsibilities are a variety of town-wide infrastructure improvements. Typical infrastructure improvement projects that are performed by this division are sewerage installation, drainage installation including culverts, water main installation, and administration of the Roadway Management Program that includes roadway overlays and reconstructions. This division takes many of these projects from conception to completion including estimates, survey, design, permitting, bid document development, bid review and award, abutter notification, and construction supervision. The construction supervision aspect of these projects includes overseeing the contractor for conformance to plans and specifications, quantifying work performed for payment, and interacting with area residents to answer any questions and concerns.

Additionally, the Town hires engineering consultants for projects throughout the town. This division works closely with these consultants from conception to completion, including a thorough review of the consultants' design.

This division also assists the Planning Board in many areas. We provide plan reviews, bond estimates, roadway condition assessment reports, and answer technical questions on request. Additionally, we inspect all stages of construction for residential subdivisions and roadway improvements for compliance with the Planning Board Rules & Regulations, DPW standards, and the Certificate of Approval.

This division coordinates with Mosquito Control for town projects, assists the public with questions and concerns, supports other departments with technical assistance, assigns house numbers, and monitors conformance to the adequate access by-law.
