Overview
The Cemetery Section is responsible for the operation, maintenance
and expansion of the town's cemeteries. The six cemeteries
under town jurisdiction are: Fox Hill, North, South, Jacob
Hill, Old North and the Rogers Family Tomb. Grave sites may
only be purchased by town residents. At this time, graves are
not sold pre-need. A recent expansion of the Fox Hill Cemetery
provided 4,700 new graves.
The Parks & Trees Section is responsible for removing all
dead trees on town property as well as those that are a danger
to the public. Additional responsibilities include trimming
and cutting back brush along town roadways. This section's
duties also include maintaining facilities for the Recreation
Department such as baseball and soccer fields.
Other areas maintained are the Town Common, Library, Town
Hall, Police Station, Kids Konnection and 25 different squares
located throughout the town. Other tasks include plowing snow,
hanging banners, assisting other divisions, changing traffic
light bulbs and emptying trash receptacles.
In addition, this division has taken on the task of treating
the Town's catch basins with larvacide in an attempt to eradicate
Culex Mosquitoes which are known to carry the West Nile Virus.
