The
Department of Public Works provides many services to the residents
of Billerica and is directly responsible for the following:
Roadway Maintenance:
The Department of Public Works Highway Division manages the efforts
related to repairs, maintenance, and sweeping of streets and
sidewalks in order to ensure that all public rights-of-way are safe
and accessible at all times. For
additional information, see our
Highway Division Page.
Snow and Ice:
The Department of Public Works Highway Division manages the efforts
related to keeping our community safe and accessible during winter
weather events. For detailed information regarding this program, see
our General Plan of Snow Removal
Operations.
Water Treatment:
The
Department of Public Works Water Division manages the Town's
municipal water program, which includes the Water Treatment Plant
and water distribution system. Water is taken from the Concord
River and is then pumped to the water treatment facility, where the
water is properly treated and impurities are removed. Water is then
stored in the Town's two elevated tanks for distribution to the
water service lines and homes. For additional information, see our
Water Division Page.
Wastewater Treatment:
The Department of Public Works Wastewater Division manages the
Town's municipal wastewater program, which includes the Wastewater
Treatment Plant and sanitary sewer collection system. Waste travels
from your home's plumbing system through the sewer service to the
municipal sewer main. Waste then travels through the municipal sewer
lines to a wastewater treatment facility where the waste is properly
managed. For additional information, see our
Wastewater Division Page.
Cemeteries and Grounds Maintenance:
The
Department of Public Works Cemetery, Parks, and Trees Division
manages the efforts related to grave-site preparation and other burial
services, and grounds maintenance at the Town's six cemeteries: Fox
Hill, North, South, Jacob Hill, Old North, and the Rogers Family
Tomb. Various other public areas of Town are maintained by this
Division. For additional information, see our
Cemetery, Parks, and Trees Division
Page.
